Plentiful CAN bus solutions: CANopen, DeviceNet, J1939

ICP DAS is one of the global leaders in supporting a full range of industrial control products and Fieldbus solutions which are widely adopted in industrial applications. Striving for the development of CAN bus for a long period, ICP DAS is offering the abundant CAN solutions which cover CAN bus controllers, PC-based CAN Communication Cards, CAN Converters, Repeaters, Bridges, Switches, CAN Gateway, CAN power meters, etc. Here with the repeaters, bridges and switches are introduced first. They are used to establish a physical coupling of two or more segments of a CAN bus system, and implemented for the complex CAN network structures.

Physical CAN bus applications:
The following diagram helps to realize the CAN bus applications which are message filtering, message routing, bus extension and tree or star topology.

Application short stories:
  • Tram Energy Recycling System

Energy saving and carbon reduction has become a goal that every government is striving for. In order to achieve this, the customer has implemented regenerative braking so that the kinetic energy of the tram produced while its braking can be recycled. In order to provide resistance to environmental disturbances, extend the CAN bus operating range and deliver a higher CAN transmission speed, two I-2533 modules are used.
Solar Tracking System

This solar power station has 410 CAN nodes which controls the mirror plant. The whole mirrors reflect the sun energy to focus on a tower. The tower would transfer the heat energy into electric power. It is a quite huge CAN network system. The network system has been divided into several sub-systems. The sub-systems were connected together by the CAN bridges (I-7532) and CAN switches (I-2534). The CAN bridge (I-7532) is able to extend the CAN bus distance. The CAN switch (I-2534) serve as coupler to combine several CAN bus sub-systems.
